RIVER ROAD 1

The River Road residence was tailored to a highly constraining property that included both water and upland areas on the tidal banks of the Fraser River estuary. The home sits entirely on the upland area of the property, but on the river side of Ladner's River Road dike. An extensive deck is elevated on piers over the river, and connects structurally to 'rubble' of the site's light industrial past. With an eye to changing climate and rising sea levels, an integrated concrete retaining wall snakes through the home, effectively raising the dyke's elevation.
